The Third Stage of Life
Saturday, October 30th, 12:00-3:00pm

Cost: $25
Sign up in the studio to reserve your place.

In this workshop we explore the 3rd stage of life. This stage, more than any other opens the door to a broader vision of life and a desire to “see” and experience that which is truly important.

Topics that we will discuss include:
Increased awareness of the body and its needs. The needs of the body shift in this 3rd stage. Doshas reflect the unique mix of the elemental energies of earth, water, fire and air. This unique mix of elemental energies help give each of us our talents and abilities as well as our vulnerabilities and weaknesses, impacting every aspect of our lives. We discuss doshas, your particular doshas, what they are, how they change over time, and the increasing importance of diet as related to particular doshas.

  • Why digestion and cleansing are so important.
  • Yoga practices that help sustain vitality, strength and purpose.
  • The importance of continuing to cultivate a clear, enlivened mind.
  • Living joyfully in the 3rd stage of life, wherein wisdom flowers and we learn to honor all of the experiences of this life.
  • “A yogi does not measure life by years, but by the breath he takes.”

Yoga Kosha Mapping
Sunday
Date to be announced

6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
(when registering, please specify your order of preference for one or two dates)
Limited number of places available.
Instructor: Shawn Essed
Cost: Students Class Cards Accepted (minimum 4 students)

Kosha mapping is a body awareness exercise. It is also deeply relaxing. Through this workshop students can gain a deeper understanding of the body’s layers, the chakras and where emotions and experiences are stored in the body.

The yogic tradition teaches us that we are made up of layers, or koshas: the physical body, the energy body, the thinking mind, the wisdom body, and the bliss body. In this workshop we’ll explore these layers and draw a map of our findings. We’ll begin with a gentle vinyasa (flowing sequence of yoga poses) followed by pranayama (breath work). Afterward participants will lay in savasana (on the back) as the instructor guides them through the body, pausing periodically to allow time for drawing.

Open to everyone and artistic talent is not necessary. All materials will be provided.

RSVP as soon as possible, but no later Thursday prior to workshop on Sunday or Tuesday prior to the workshop on Friday. (please specify your preference for date and time when you register)

No writing experience is necessary as our focus will be on exploration rather than on a finished product. Students with all levels of yoga experience (including no experience) are welcome. Yoga Sutras Discussion Group
When: 3rd Friday of the month
Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Cost: donations, suggested $4.00
Host: Helen Resop, RYT/PYT
RSVP requested via email

Welcomes students of any level - no yoga experience needed. This is an informal, relaxed and safe setting to read the Yoga Sutras. We'll have a conversation about how these ancient verses apply to us in today's world, as we each attempt, in the midst of all the craziness, to find our way back to what yoga calls our 'True Nature'. If you have a desire to understand yoga and yourself a little better, as well as explore how each of us can apply these ancient teachings in our lives.

Yoga Asana (postures) practice, as we know it, is a relatively new addition to the broader philosophy of yoga. The Yoga Sutras are brief verses, written about 2,000 years ago, that condense the more all-encompassing yoga philosophy.

This donation based event is offered on the first and third Friday of each month at 7:00 to 8:15 pm. You will need to notify the host , that you wish to attend prior to meeting, as dates can change. You will need the book 'The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali', translation and commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda, Integral Yoga Publications.

Exploring Dynamic Balance
First in a series exploring a new way to hone your yoga skills

Taught by Jeri Eaton, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner
with more than 5 years of experience in the Feldenkrais Method.

Saturday, November 13th
12:30-2:30pm
Cost $30/person

• Are balance poses a challenge?
• Would you like to feel more stable on one foot - or two?
• Are you interested in exploring the familiar in unfamiliar ways – and discovering new insights along the way?

Every move one makes involves the whole person - not just an arm, foot, or a knee.  Improvement of an asana comes through repetition – but it can also come through increased awareness of how each part of our selves habitually cooperates with - or resists - what we intend to do.

Using specific lessons from the Feldenkrais Method ® of Somatic Education this workshop will introduce lessons that explore habitual movement and help identify patterns of movement that are beneficial and those that are not - discoveries that can lead to an easy and effortless experience of well-grounded balance.

Created by Israeli physicist, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, in response to his own knee injury the goal of The Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education is to provide renewed choices in how we move through our daily life. The Method offers lessons that allow us to meet our potential in our yoga practice as well as in everyday life.

“Make the impossible, possible; the possible, easy and the easy, elegant.” - Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

Why ‘Stuff’ Happens - What We Can and Can’t Do About It – A Personal Exploration from a Yogic/ Shamanic Perspective
with Helen Resop, RYT/PYT
Sunday, date to be announced
10:00am – 1:00pm
Cost: $25.00

'Stuff' happens all the time; it’s part of life. How we deal with the 'stuff' is another matter. This is the first in a series of workshops in which we explore:

•What chakras are and how they affect our daily lives.
•How chakras can provide a roadmap for looking at our core issues.
•Why the beliefs we have about ourselves and others are so important. We wear our beliefs like a set of clothes; they influence our thoughts, emotions and actions.
•Why we want to acknowledge our emotions, both positive and negative.
•How we are each our own best teacher; how we can learn to better listen to the 'inner-voice of knowing' that exists in each of us.

Over the course of the workshops we’ll engage in discussion, yoga asana, pranayama, the use of mudras, guided visualization, drumming, and shamanic journeying.

YOGA NIDRA – Relaxation Experience
Pre-Registration required
Sunday, Date to be announced
12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
with Helen Resop, RYT/PYT
Cost: $20.00

Yoga Nidra (roughly translates to "Yogic Sleep") is a meditation used to bring the Subconscious Mind to the surface by focusing awareness to the parts of the body in a defined sequence.  Participants use a Sankalpa, or 'positive intention' to direct their path and realize their Dharma Goals.  As the Subconscious Mind is much more receptive than the Conscious Mind, the impressions implanted into the subconscious are much more likely to manifest.

In Yoga Nidra, the mind transcends the Waking State of Consciousness, the level at which traditional meditation is practiced.  In this workshop, you will be guided past the Dreaming State, and into the Deep Sleep level of Consciousness, at which you will remain coherent, but be in a state of total relaxation.

A superlative relaxation tool, Yoga Nidra can be equivalent to 4 hours of sleep.  However, the true nature of Yoga Nidra goes well beyond deep relaxation; Yoga Nidra establishes the link between the conscious desires, will power, and the subconscious & unconscious minds.

Students participating may bring their yoga mat, a small pillow or two and a light blanket. You may want to use a pillow or blanket prop as a bolster beneath the knees for comfort and added tension release. The blanket will also be used below your body for cushioning and gentle warmth, as the body tends to cool during relaxation. There are several available in the studio if you can't bring your own.

Bring relaxation and serenity into every part of your day
