Class Details
Our session classes are arranged to have a progressive series of postures. Students welcome to start at any time.
Our studio is heated to about 75° in the winter and cooled to a range of 73° to 77° in the summer. While this is not a 'hot yoga' studio, you will generate internal warmth from the 'yogic' breath, pranic energy movement and the practice of postures. AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT® is a class for anyone who wants to move better, whether in yoga class or in everyday life. Used by a broad range of people, from professional dancers and actors to those with balance challenges, Awareness Through Movement can address this broad spectrum of needs by virtue of its focus: learning, or refining, how one moves. Yoga students often find that after an Awareness Through Movement lesson asanas can be done with less struggle and greater ease. In addition students often discover that they have greater range of motion, and greater flexibility in previously stubborn areas. The lesson consists of a series of small, gentle movements done lying on the floor, during which the teacher brings specific focus to the parts of the body involved. In the process of bringing attention to the details of each action, the student can learn how to eliminate unnecessary movement, avoid pain and transform intention into action in such a way to make “the impossible, possible; the possible, easy; and the easy, elegant.” (Moshe Feldenkrais D.Sc.)

YOGA SUTRA Discussion Group welcomes students of any level - no yoga experience needed. This is an informal, relaxed and safe setting to read the Yoga Sutras. We'll have a conversation about how these ancient verses apply to us in today's world, as we each attempt, in the midst of all the craziness, to find our way back to what yoga calls our 'True Nature'. If you have a desire to understand yoga and yourself a little better, as well as explore how each of us can apply these ancient teachings in our lives.

Yoga Asana (postures) practice, as we know it, is a relatively new addition to the broader philosophy of yoga. The Yoga Sutras are brief verses, written about 2,000 years ago, that condense the more all-encompassing yoga philosophy.

 I have received many benefits
from practicing yoga over the years.
I started in my 50's when I had
severe arthritis and have
continued on my own until recently
when I returned to taking classes f
or a problem with spinal curvature.
Yoga has helped me gain muscle
strength and stamina needed to
prevent further progression of the curve.
I turned 80 last year, and arthritis
is rarely a problem.
